Weslo Housing Management is governed
by a Board of 12, headed by a non-Executive Chairman. The Board is
made up of 4 tenant directors, 3 wider community representatives, 2
local authority nominees and 3 Executive Directors forming the
Executive Team, who are charged with the day-to-day running of the
business.
The Board oversees the strategic
direction of the organisation, meeting on a 6 weekly cycle. The
Board is responsible for reviewing the strategy and performance, as
well as setting operational plans and budgets. The day to day
operations of the group are administered by the Chief Executive,
Finance Director and Operations Director.
Professor Peter Robson (Chair),
LLB, PhD
Peter is a qualified Solicitor
and Professor of Social Welfare Law at the University
of Strathclyde.
Peter has lectured at the
Universities of Stirling, Glasgow, Heriot Watt and
Strathclyde. His major interests are Law and Popular
Culture, Housing Law, Social Security Law and Clinical Law.
He is also the author of several books on housing law. He was
previously Chair of the national housing charity Shelter and a
Part-time Judge in the Appeals Service dealing with Disability
Appeals and Child Support Appeals
Peter joined the Weslo Board In 1993
and has been chair since 2005.
Executive Directors
Mike Bruce. LLB,
MCIH
Mike has been Chief
Executive of Weslo since 2005.
His career has been spent in housing,
starting in 1974 with Scottish Special Housing Association, moving
on in 1989 to Scottish Homes when that body was formed and
continuing with Weslo since its inception in 1994.
During his Weslo career, Mike has been
at the forefront of many of the initiatives which have been
instrumental in the growth of the company and enhanced its
reputation in the housing sector. From the introduction of the
company's Flexible Tenure Scheme in the late 90's through to the
present, he continues to explore opportunities in the market to
grow the company and improve the service it provides to its
tenants. A member of the Chartered Institute of Housing's UK
Housing Panel, Mike is a regular presenter at Housing conferences
and seminars as well as a periodic contributor of published
articles and commentaries on the Scottish housing environment.
Mike Crozier, MCIH
Mike has worked in social
housing since 1976 with SSHA and
Scottish Homes and was a member of the staff group which set up
Weslo in 1994 to purchase the properties in West Lothian
from Scottish Homes.
Mike began his Weslo career as
Housing Services Director and sits on Weslo's
Board and is a member of the Executive Team. Since taking on the
role of Operations Director in 2005 Mike has led the way in
developing the company's HR policies and procedures.
A member of the Chartered Institute of
Housing, Mike is married with one son and lives in Edinburgh
Douglas Drummond
Douglas is a member of the
original Executive Team which, in
1994, created Weslo Housing Management, the first staff-led
transfer of Scottish Homes
housing stock.
Since assuming the post of
Finance Director, Douglas has been
instrumental in sourcing investment for the many initiatives with
which Weslo has been involved.
Douglas has also provided a variety of
services for the RSL and Local Authority sector and leads on
consultancy services for Weslo Housing Management.
Community
Directors
John Spraggon, CIPFA
John is a member of the
Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy,
qualifying in 1965.
He has held various financial
posts in both the public and private sectors, gaining
experience in pension fund administration,
internal and external audit and overall
financial management.
Appointments include Chief Internal Auditor for Midlothian County
Council and Depute Treasurer for both West Lothian County and
District Councils.
On the amalgamation of the Housing and
Direct Works Departments of West Lothian District Council in the
1980's John was appointed Director of Housing Services and remained
in post until the reorganisation of local government in 1996.
During 1995/96 he was also appointed to the post of Director of
Finance and Chief Executive.
He has been a member of the Weslo
Board since 2003.
Margaret McIntyre, MCIH
Margaret has been a Board
member since 2009. Early in her
working life she successfully applied for a job in housing and it
wasn't long before she realised that
she wanted to make housing her career.
Over the years, Margaret has
worked in a number of housing
associations, a local authority and in the voluntary sector. She
achieved her professional qualifications in housing as a mature
student after a career break to raise her family.
Margaret has served on a number of
committees over the years, a school board and has been a volunteer
with CAB. She is an active member of her church, enjoys travelling,
is a keen skier and is a member of the Bathgate Ski Club. She has
ambitions to climb Ben Nevis and travel round the world on a
'mature gap year'.
Tenant Directors
Eileen
Porter
Eileen is a native of Polbeth
and has been a tenant of her
Bathgate home since 2006. She has been a member of
the Weslo Board for 4 years and a member of the Tenant
Participation Group since
2007.
Eileen is involved voluntarily
in community based work in relation to Area
Regeneration Tenant Participation in Priority 3 areas locally and
further afield. She holds an HNC in working with Communities and a
CIH Level 2 certificate in Housing.
Of her time on the Weslo Board, Eileen
says "Weslo is an excellent landlord and I am pleased to be able to
be part of the Weslo team to promote the views of tenants and the
issues they face".
Janette Wallace
Janette has over 30 years
experience as a tenant in public sector housing. She has
been a Weslo tenant for 21 years, a Tenant
Director since 2006 and also sits on the Tenant
Participation Committee and the
Equalities Committee.
Janette is active in her
community and is also a volunteer, acting as
Treasurer, for the Stoneyburn Pensioners Lunch Club.
Alex Bow
Alex has been a member of the
Board since 2008 and is a Weslo tenant of some 20
years standing.
For the past ten years he has
been a Trustee of one of the
largest pension funds in the UK and was previously deputy
chair of his local School Board.
Hugh Ruck
Hugh, a retired toolmaker, has
been a resident of Livingston since 1983 and is a Weslo
tenant.
He is an active member of a
local allotment and currently a
member of Weslo's Tenant working group.
Hugh was co-opted as a Tenant
Director in September 2010 and this gave him a keen appreciation of
the true value of Social Housing. He is keen to promote Weslo's
contribution to raising housing standards in West Lothian.

Representatives
Ann Ritchie - Falkirk Council Representative
Ann is an SNP Councillor for
the Bo'ness & Blackness Ward and lives in
Bo'ness.
She serves on the Education
Committee, the Environmental and community Safety
Committee, the Valuations Committee and has been a member of the
Weslo Board since February 2011.
Frank Anderson - West Lothian Council
Representative
Councillor Anderson (SNP) is
the Executive Portfolio Holder for
Services for the Community and is the Chair of Services for the
Community Policy Development and Scrutiny
Panel.
Councillor Anderson has been a
member of the Weslo Board since
June 2007.
